NSRI, STATION 30
BRIEF HISTORY AND OPERATIONAL INFORMATION
Station 30 of the NSRI (Agulhas) operates from Struisbaai.
The crew of NSRI, Station 30, consisted of motivated individuals from different backgrounds and jobs. The team operates under the very able command and enthusiastic leadership of Shane Kempen.
Recently they’ve moved their headquarters and rescue boat to a permanent base on the corner of Main and Harbor Street in Struisbaai. It was the realization of a long held ideal. The location of the new station has cut the reaction time for the crew of Station 30 considerably. In the past they needed about 30 minutes to move the boat from an inland location to the harbor. It was not a sustainable solution and it is a credit to this group of highly dedicated guys and ladies and the passionate vision of Shane Kempen who brought the new situation along. They are now the guardians of their own NSRI building, which is strategically placed in relation to the Struisbaai Harbor.
EXCITING DEVELOPMENT AND 8.5 M RIB
Another exciting development is the future delivery of a Gemini 8.5 m RIB. When delivered the Gemini 8.5 will be one of only 2 similar boats in service at the NSRI. In the meantime Station 30 is privileged to have the services of the 5.5m “Freemasons Way” on loan from Durban.
