Why choose Struisbaai as a destination? Consider the following and decide for yourself.

1. SOUTHERNMOST TIP OF AFRICA

Make a pilgrimage to the very southernmost tip of Africa. This is the place where the Indian Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean officially meet. This place of pilgrimage is marked by a monument. No visit to Southern Africa can be complete without visiting this shrine of nature. Take some photographs to mark this momentous occasion.

2. L’AGULHAS LIGHTHOUSE

The L’Agulhas lighthouse is open to the public. Come, visit and climb the steep stairs to get a good view of the surrounding area and the ocean. The lighthouse museum contain some memorabilia that brings back memories of the pioneer light keepers and their hermetical lifestyles To top it all this lighthouse was built over hundred years ago with the old Pharos lighthouse as inspiration and was modeled thereafter (one of the seven wonders of the world of antiquity).

3. STRUISBAAI HARBOR

The attractive Struisbaai harbor is worth more than one visit. Sometimes one is bowled over by its peace and tranquility. At other times one is humbled by the temperamental nature of the sea as witnessed from the shores of this very harbor. The departure and homecomings of fishing boats is a source of constant joy and pleasure to locals and visitors alike. And spare a thought for our very local celebrities, a group of tame and impressive Manta Rays that are regular visitors to our harbor. Many a successful fishing expedition was concluded from the jetty. And if you opt to lay back and have your moment in the sun, one can watch the action from the well known “Seekoeigat” (Hippopotamus waterhole). This little harbor next to the harbor is popular amongst families for its swimming and amongst water sport lovers.

4. BOARDWALK

To walk along the seaside, just above water level and without damaging the fynbos. Can that be done? It is manmade, is our boardwalk, but with the foresight that went into the planning, the boardwalk provides a vantage point from where one can take delight into the sound and sights of the sea and its inhabitants. The boardwalk is a man built wooden structure that hugs the sea between the Struisbaai caravan park and the harbor. It is worth a visit and the walk along the sea.

5. STRUISBAAI PLAAT

But wait don’t leave yet! “Die Plaat” waits. “Die Plaat” is a wide stretch of sand that allows brisk walker, exercise enthusiast, social walker and groups of friends to just be, stroll along en wander into the long beachy endlessness.
